El Segundo Nivel translates to “The Second Level,” and that is where we want to take our lives. How about you?
Who are we?
El Segundo Nivel was the passion project of husband and wife team, Klod Abergel and Erica Garcia Abergel who share a deep commitment to using their expertise in building a business that will thrive as it aims to be a hub where the community can gather and grow personally and professionally. A business that will also give back to the community and be part of the growth of downtown Humacao.
The connection we feel with the local culture and the appreciation for the architectural and historical aspects of the Plaza Recreo and Calle Ulises Martinez is evident. We are a couple of diverse backgrounds. Klod, in commercial and residential construction and Erica, in financial services, yoga, and wellness. Together we decided to create a space that combines historic charm and holistic well-being.
We live in Punta Santiago with our service dog, Luna. When not exploring the island, Klod continues to rehab homes that we purchase while you will see Erica more in the day-to-day space. Erica is also offering weekend retreats in different parts of the island teaching folks the importance of self-care, mindfulness, rest, clean eating and using nature to nurture as tools for living optimally.
Who are our clients? You are!
El Segundo Nivel’s is a work space that fosters a productive and collaborative work environment but also contributes to the overall health and growth of individuals within the community. Our goals were to provide our clients - business owners, investors, executives, writers, students, artists, and visiting professionals- with a one-stop solution for mind, body, and spirit needs reflects an understanding of the importance of convenience and holistic well-being for modern professionals.
The provision of aesthetically pleasing conference room spaces for important transactions and face-to-face meetings adds another layer of professionalism and functionality to the offerings. Moreover, the space for hosting unique workshops that blend wellness, mental rejuvenation, and work-related activities aligns with the growing trend of incorporating holistic approaches to enhance team bonding, networking, and creativity within organizations.
Whether you just drop in for an open space, or book a designated desk or semi-private cubby, we have the space for you! The open space and three large rooms can hold up to 40 individuals +
Our Mission & Vision
What you think, you become. What you feel, you attract. What you imagine, you create…. ~ Buddha
You hold the dream and the pen… Now, manifest your own path at our mindfully inspired shared space!
We are dedicated to preserving the community's historical and structural integrity while infusing it with new life through small businesses. Our aim was to contribute to the revitalization of the local downtown and add vibrancy to the pedestrian street and support the locals with a hub for personal growth and networking that can add to the economic landscape. Our goal was the build a space that was welcoming to all visitors where meaningful conversations, creative ideas and networking could actually bridge gaps between the expats and locals and actualize tangible contributions to the betterment of Puerto Rico, particularly Humacao, a place we all call home.
Our vision was to create a space that welcomed visitors from all walks and stages of their lives. We wanted to create a holistic and thoughtfully designed co-working space that went beyond just providing a physical space to work (or study) but a place that went beyond to providing a meaningful experience for those who enter - Mind, Body, Spirit and Business. Our emphasis is on mindful, inspirational, creative productivity, networking, and overall well-being creates a unique environment for individuals who value a balance between their professional and personal lives.
#6 Calle Ulises Martinez has seen many evolutions. From what we know, it was originally owned by Dr. Crescencio Arroyo, a well known Gynecologist in the Humacao area. Actually, apparently, he and his brothers owned several properties in the downtown Humacao area.
Upon his passing, it was passed down to his son Ernesto Arroyo. Who also upon the death of Ernesto and his wife, the building was passed down to their three daughters. It was from the daughters that Klod and Erica Abergel purchased the building.
The daughters saw the love we immediately felt for the structure and our vision and mission to rehab the building, particularly the second floor, which had been unfortunately not used and left to disrepair for over a decade.
No. 6 Calle Ulises Martinez is a beautiful building that has seen and served many locals from it’s various build layouts. It has had the medical offices, florists, pizzeria, bakeries, clothing stores and even was a funeral parlor in one of it’s lifetimes! Here were two old polaroid photos found in the archives from the late 1980s and 1990s.

No. 6 Calle Ulises Martinez is also a corner building that meets Calle Dufresnes. When you visit, please take a moment to see the beautiful Mural by artist SMITE.
This mural was painted after Hurricane Maria in 2017 as one of the 30+ murals painted under the project called Humacao Grita.

It all begins with an idea. Maybe you want to launch a business. Maybe you want to turn a hobby into something more. Or maybe you have a creative project to share with the world.
